Sexual Gender Based VIOLENCE - SGBV Training at Borstal InstitutionE
The
training brought
together the Pwani GBV network, the media, police officers and
Badilika members of sexual offenders that have come up to be
ambassadors of change within the prison and outside after their jail
terms. The main objective of the training was to Stimulate
individuals to take action to prevent violence against women.
The training was focused on inspiring everyday activists who will be
able to use their power to create positive changes in the families,

REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH –SRH ISSUES AMONG MOMBASA YOUTHS
The
edutainment activity took place at gurdian grounds in Mshomoroni. Blue
Angels and Junda Development Initiative Vision 2030- JUNDEV youth
groups presented skits that had information about sexual reproductive
healths and rights and the challenges that they encounter in accessing

two Days event brought together 100 participants from NG0`s and CSO`s
from Kenya 30 from China and 50 from other African Countries, Senior

Badilika
(Change)
is the name of the project that was decided on by the male sexual
offenders at Shimo la Tewa Prison, now re-named the Rehabilitation
Centre. The group of 19 male sexual offenders who met us on 20th June
at Shimo la Tewa Rehabilitation Centre concurred that there is a need

of Treated Mosquito Nets at Freetown Primary School
Appreciation
for CWID and Rotary Club Mombasa for the kind gesture to the school,
CWID has been like a mother to the school, providing with sanitary
towels to the girls, contributing towards their trips to participate in
co-curriculum activities.e.g Trip to music festivals in Kakamega 2010

The
Tuinuane Project is a project that was started by Coast Women in
Development for the women at the grassroots level. The project
started with a micro-credit program where women groups are given soft
loans individually. The loans have improved the livelihoods of the
participating women. Through these loans they are able to fend for
their families, pay school fees for their children and boost their

DAYS FOR ACTION ON WOMEN'S HEALTH 2011
Maternal mortality, infant mortality, HIV/AIDS and
Sexual Gender Based Violence are major setbacks to the health of Women
in the Kenyan Coast specifically Mombasa County today. Pwani GBV
network and Coast Health Action Campaign Network have been dealing with
the issues since 2008.This year, the two networks expected to prompt an
initiative of Health Action Campaign to ensure that every woman in

Report
of Dissemination of Kenya AIDS Indicator Survey
The Participants were taken
through the chapters 4, 5, 6 and 10 of the Kenya AIDS Indicator Survey
report 2007, the impact of the awareness between 2003 and 2007, key
findings, figures and the gaps. Although the study has 15chapters we
had opted on the four chapters because of time and funds so if we get
more funds we will have to do dissemination of the remaining chapters
to the participants to assist them in there work on HIV matters.....more

16 Days of Activism 2010
With women the world over facing the fear of falling victim to violent
crime on a daily basis, the 16 days of Activism begins with a call for
action. Over 1000 people attended the launch of 16 Days
of Activism at Kadongo grounds, Mishomoroni. The purpose was to create
awareness to the society on the need for prevention against Gender
Based Violence.This 16-day period also highlights other significant
dates, including Iernational Women Human Rights Defenders Day, World
AIDS Day, International Disables Day and the Anniversary of the

in grassroots women
Since empowering rural women economically is one CWID’s core
objectives, on 30 April 2010, CWID’s Communications officer
Lorine Awuor and CWID’s Intern Gillian Stoddard Leatherberry
traveled to the Vitengeni ward in rural Kenya to visit one of the
groups we work with and who have received the CWID’s micro
credit loans about how the loans have helped improve their

had all the reasons to smile as they matched in one voice in
a one kilometer procession distributing materials to the public and

The day was graced with
traditional dances from Maridadi dancers, plays from Ndambale group,
songs and poems all with a message geared towards the welfare and the
rights of a girl child. Grace Education Centre moved the crowd with
their moving poems on girl child education, HIV/AIDS and girl child

Hunger in Kenya
Having
declared the food crisis as a National disaster, the president left the
citizens with no option but to find something for their stomachs, it
did not matter how or where the food was supposed to come from,
citizens searched for food anywhere they could stumble on. While some
Kenyan women sold their bodies for as less as Ksh. 20 just to access

education
Since
most girls in Kinango are subjected to early marriage by their parents
especially fathers, chances of them completing their studies are so
slim. Their tradition too does not create room for the girl child to
have enough time to prepare and concentrate on their studies. ...more

of the deadly killer disease in Kenya is Malaria, CWID has a program of
donating mosquito nets to pregnat women and children under five years,
this we do in the slums and the poverty stricken rural areas. On this

Won a case in court
of an infant who was abducted by a rogue father
CWID
advocates for the rights of children and women, on this occasion we won
a case against a man who had abducted an infant of ten days from his
woman. CWID beleives that mothers are supposed to take care of their
infants when they are alive no matter their financial status
